Track and Field has always been a big part of Ross Cosmos. Spring, 2017 was a very successful season for Ross School because we had many runners who did pretty well. In addition to that, we had several shot put, discus throwers and jumpers.

One of our runners was Taito Shimizu who showed a really good time and helped the team to earn a lot of points during the meets. But running wasn't the only strong aspect of our team. The shot put throwers like Albert Darchiev and Andy Zheng showed a lot of progress throughout the season. Moreover, Albert Darchiev helped the team by earning 1st and 2nd place at many of the meets. Ross School also had some pretty solid jumpers like Guilherme Mendonca who had results. In addition to that, there were several girls who did shot put and discuss last year. In particular, Clover Kim and Yuki Zhu made a lot of progress by the end of the season.

The first meet of the 2017 season was on March 30th at Mattituck. The team wasn't experienced enough, but showed a lot of desire to win. Taito Shimizu had a good start in the 300m by earning third place(26’1). Also, Taito Shimizu and Mario Chen had decent starts in the 100m. The girls who were training in shot put struggled during the first meet, Clover Kim earned 7th place(15’5) and Yuki 8th place(14’1). The girls from Mattituck basically earned all the other places because they had more throwers than Ross. However, boys’ shot put had better results than the girls. Frank Qi earned second place(33’9) and Albert Darchiev 6th place(31’95). The discus throwers were also pretty successful for the boys because Frank earned 3rd place(79’3) and Albert 5th place(73’5). Boys’ long jump results were good as well because Guilherme Mendonca earned 2nd place(16’11). The first meet against Mattituck was some kind of experiment for our athletes and most of them had a good start for the season.

All the athletes tried their best during practices and every single meet they improved. Peter Roberts and Jared Duke did their best to help their students improve as both athletes and as individuals, overall.

. The last meet of the season against Greenport on 5/11/17 showed the progress of the athletes and how hard they worked during the season of 2017. The boys long jump event went pretty well and Kehan Fan earned 3rd place(15’4). The shot put throwers were on fire with Albert Darchiev earning 1st place(33’7”) and Andy Zheng 2nd place(31’6). The boys discus players were also incredible: Albert Darchiev earned 1st(75’3) and Andy Zheng 3rd(67’10). Boys 100m were very solid with Taito earning 2nd place(12’2), Guilherme

Good luck!

3rd place(12’3) and Hansel Chang 6th place(13’5). Overall, boys Greenport outscored Ross(28:86-L). At the last meet, girls showed a lot of progress, especially in the long jump where Naomi earned 2nd place(11’7). In the girls shot put, Caly earned 2nd place(20’3) and Luna 3rd (17’1). However, the girls from Greenport were better than us that day.(12:93 - L). Ross

athletes did an incredible job last season and they worked everyday after school in order to succeed. We hope that the season of 2018 will be more successful for us and we are looking forward to seeing more wins this year.
